Wild yam, whose botanical name is Dioscorea villosa, is a tuberous vine (and not a root, as it is normally thought) that grows in wet and humid regions. 

It can be found growing in thickets all over the world, where there is tropical, subtropical and temperate climate. Wild yam extract contains diosgenin, which has anti-fatigue, anti-inflammatory, anti-stress, hypocholesterolemia, and estrogenic effects.

What is Wild Yam Extract?
The source of yam extract is the tuber of Dioscorea opposita Thunb., a plant of Dioscoreaceae. 

According to the test results of yam by the Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the tubers contain an average of 14.48% crude protein, 3.48% crude fiber, 43.7% starch, 1.14% sugar, 2.62% potassium, and 0.00% phosphorus. 2%, calcium 0.2%, magnesium 0.14%, ash 5.51%, iron 53.57ppm, zinc 29.22ppm, copper 10.58ppm, manganese 5.38ppm. Among the 18 kinds of amino acids needed by humans, yams contain 16 kinds.
